Our Church |
In the mid-1980's, under the leadership of Pastor Richard Lusk of the Kowloon International Baptist Church, a new church plant was begun in Clearwater Bay. A missionary couple was assigned to the work and services were held in a building owned by the Hong Kong Baptist Mission. KIBC also had a branch kindergarten operating there. Sadly, the couple stayed less than one year and the Chapel closed its doors. Upon their 'retirement' from KIBC, the Lusks took up the task of resurrecting the work at Clearwater Bay. They moved to Clearwater Bay, taking up residence in the very building that housed the original chapel. They held the first service of the new Clearwater Bay International Baptist Chapel on the first Sunday of August, 1993 with six people present. After meeting in their home for one month, the small group moved to the current location, Clearwater Bay School. The Lusks retired in October of 1995. In September 1995, the chapel welcomed retired U.S. Navy chaplain Frank Baggott and his wife, Faye, as its new pastoral team. The Baggotts served faithfully from September 1995 until September of 1997. Pastor Harris arrived in October of 1997. By God's grace, on 16 May 1999, the chapel became the Clearwater Bay International Baptist Church with the Lusks and the Baggotts joining in the celebrations. In October 2001, Pastor Harris felt led by God to pursue a Ph.D. in the U.S. We again experienced God's wonderful provision that Rev. Billy Campbell was willing to serve as our interim pastor until the arrival of our new pastor. In January 2002, Pastor Frank and Mrs. Ruth Cuthbertson came to shepherd our church. They served until January 2006 when they felt led to return to their home in Australia. |
